  • Before you start wallpapering, you should check that the wall is smooth, clean and free of impurities.
  • Then you should apply a layer of impregnator to help the wallpaper adhere, especially on new or recently polished walls.
  • Using a reference line, plan how you will apply the wallpaper. Apply the whole pieces to the most prominent areas of the room and proceed from that point to the right and left. This way, the design will be centred and symmetrical.
  • Once you have the paper ready, apply the glue directly to the wall with a roller (on larger areas) or a brush (on more difficult areas such as baseboards, corners or near door or window frames). We advise you not to stick to the width of the paper when gluing, but to add a few centimetres more at the ends. PORCELANOSA recommends the use of the glue Butech SKINS FIX.
  • Once the glue is applied, you have 30 minutes to lay the wallpaper. Start by fixing the upper part of the wallpaper strip, leaving three centimetres of margin between the strips. To improve adhesion, gently press down on the top half of the strip with a wallpaper brush or rubber spatula. To finish and improve adhesion, wipe the joints with a dry cloth.
  • When the wallpaper is dry, you should finish off the skirting boards and corners with a cutter and corner roller.

To do this manually you will need to measure the height and width of the wall and multiply the two together. Then divide the result by the width of the wallpaper (which is usually 53 centimetres).

Choosing a wallpaper that matches the rest of your living room décor is key. To do this, there are some basic factors to consider.

For example, the dimensions of the living room are crucial in choosing the wallpaper design. Here, the smaller the living room is, the smaller the wallpaper design should be. In spacious living rooms, the wallpaper comes out better if it has a large pattern.

Likewise, in living rooms with little natural light, it is advisable to use a wallpaper design with a light background so that we get more light. These background colours are white, yellow, sky blue, light grey, etc.

We must also remember that wallpaper is a decorative element in itself. So, take your time with your choice. Before putting it up, check how it looks in daylight, at midday and at night, and with artificial lighting (bulbs, lamps, etc.). This way you will see if you like the result in any environment.

Although papering over wallpaper can save a lot of time and effort, we do not recommend doing this more than once on the same wall as this can cause the new wallpaper to peel or warp.
