A new juror emerges at the 9th Architecture and Interior Design Awards: Julio Touza, founder of the Touza Arquitectos studio.
Even though Julio Touza was born in Galicia, he moved early on to the capital city, Madrid, in order to study Architecture. He graduated in Architecture from a college in Madrid in 1974, and a year later, he founded his architecture studio together with the renowned Mexican architect, Enrique Nafarrate. Since then, Touza Arquitectos has been developing laudable work as a Professional Studio, by bringing together different fields, such as: residential buildings; social housing; refurbishment of historic artistic buildings; health and care centres; interior design and urban planning.
He conceives architecture as a service to society, looking at the welfare of people and demonstrating its contribution to living in harmony with the environment. Nevertheless, once the technical functional needs of every architecture and interior design project which falls into his hands has been fulfilled, he does not put beauty aside at all.
More than forty years after its beginnings, Touza Architects has become a very renowned studio with an experienced background. The firm has carried out over 2.000 projects, and most of them, extremely important and highly demanding, ranging from Residential Projects, to Corporate Offices and Headquarters, Commercial Buildings, Sports Complexes and Hotel Projects, etc. Touza Arquitectos has also remodelled, refurbished and carried out important temples, museums, technological buildings and resorts, thus, providing them with value and authenticity.
Julio Touza, from the beginning, has combined his professional work at his architecture studio and his job as a teacher in different institutions. He did lessons in the ETSAM for years by participating as international speaker and representing the Superior Council of Spanish Architects. These days, he regularly participates in lectures and presentations about Architecture and Interior Design, and furthermore, he has been a juror in several contests.
At the 9th PORCELANOSA Grupo Awards, Julio Touza will share verdicts with Jean Jacques ORY, from Studios d’Architecture ORY & Associés; Scott Ziegler, Ziegler Cooper Architects; Ramón Esteve from Ramón Esteve Architecture Studio; and Ariane Steinbeck, RPW Design CEO.
All of them will assess the projects presented in two categories: The Future Projects and the Completed Projects. Projects can be sent in up to April 4th, 2016.
