The Castilla Termal-Monasterio de Valbuena is in the hamlet district of San Bernardo, Valbuena del Duero (Valladolid), and is considered as being an architectural jewel which dates back to the 12th century. Listed as a Property of Cultural Interest and a National Artistic Monument, it should be noted that, until 2015, it was a building that was practically abandoned. Then, the Castilla Termal company decided to extend it and refurbish it as well, turning it into an exclusive spa. Its beauty and unique essence lie in how it has been able to settle into such an emblematic and historic building. A place in which history, art, health and gastronomy merge with mysticism and the meditation filled atmosphere.
The monastery restoration was carried out in different phases, all directed by the architects Lorenzo Marqués de la Riva, from the Estudi BDM and Mª Jesus de Pablo. Both banked on the high-level of quality materials and products from the PORCELANOSA Grupo, offering their exclusiveness and avant-garde designs in places such as the chapel of San Pedro, the monks’ winery, or the thermal pool, among other atmospheres.
Given its masterful restoration and innovative facilities, this spa has been positioned since its recent opening as one of the perfect enclaves to escape to, to meditate, to take in the landscape, to delight in the most authentic wine or to enjoy the waters with medicinal properties in the province of Valladolid. A luxury that joins the essence of the Cistercian tradition where one can feel like the centre of attention, together with the unique welcoming and complete relaxing experience.
With the signature of Porcelanosa (by Porcelanosa)
The Chapel of San Pedro: a circuit of contrasts located in a medieval chapel, reconverted into a thermal pool. In this space, for the staircase covering and the inside of the pool, the through-body porcelain tile from Urbatek has been opted for, in Max Beige Nature 45x90cm. This material is suitable for a space with these characteristics, with high moisture concentration and in direct contact with water, given the strength and low porosity from the through-body porcelain.
The monks’ winery: this place stands out because of the conservation of its old vaulted ceiling which provides it with a unique atmosphere. Like the floor tiles and in clear contrast to the ceiling, the Paradise Baia Stone Negro mosaic by L’Antic Colonial in a 30x30cm format has been installed.
The Restaurants: another area in the Monasterio de Valbuena Hotel-Spa in which we can find materials from the PORCELANOSA Grupo are the restaurants. Atmospheres in which the stone walls combine perfectly with the PAR-KER ceramic parquet from Venis Brussels Vintage. The Cilla café, for its part, makes a commitment on the PAR-KER floor tile from Porcelanosa Oxford Natural.
The Thermal pool: one of the neuralgic points in the Monasterio de Valbuena Hotel-Spa is the thermal pool. This wellness centre, designed for relaxation and multi-sensorial experiences for the guests, has exclusive raised access flooring with drainage through the joints, made up of tiles from the anti-slip 20mm thick Urbatek Rok Dark flooring, installed on a Ultraplots structure from butech. Furthermore, the covering, in natural stone, is the Globe Wall Shannan model from L’Antic Colonial that provides a natural and cutting-edge look to the space. An elegant decoration that perfectly blends colours and textures, with all the beauty of the building easily seen, allowing for relaxation, while discovering the source of one of the most famous origin denominations in Spain.
