PORCELANOSA Grupo Projects: The Le Grand Café restaurant in Bordeaux extends its menu through materials from the PORCELANOSA Grupo

The architect, Luc Bouet, has renovated the establishment with collections from Venis, L’Antic Colonial, Noken and Krion™.

Each of the pieces which have been used enhance the sculptural character of this building, modernising its historical story.

Just a stone’s throw from the Monument aux Girondins, one of the most important monuments that Bordeaux has regarding the French Revolution, we can see the Le Grand Café. One of the best bistros around, it brings fine cooking and the Premium design from the PORCELANOSA Grupo together.

Maintaining the classical spirit by providing a new interpretation was the objective that the architect, Luc Bouet, wanted to achieve for the space renovation. To this effect, he chose several collections from four of the eight firms from the Grupo, namely: Venis, L’Antic Colonial, Noken and KrionTM; and through them, he was able to introduce balance into the different areas of the restaurant, under the same aesthetic parameters.

Slate and wood as the main course

Colour contrasts define the interior of the dining room, where natural finishes and the white tones of the furniture lead the way. The Ferroker collection by Venis has been included as the wall tile and its composition reproduces the fineness of age-old stones.

The timelessness which characterises this series from STON-KERTM is combined with the Airslate natural slate from L’Antic Colonial. Each of these pieces help to achieve that retreat which is typical of the ancient French brasseries which turned the ritual of food into a collective assembly and culinary tastes into state affairs.

That French resistance is also present in the dining room, where the Starwood ceramic wood goes perfectly with the restaurant furniture and kitchen alike. The cream finish from the Minessota collection increases not only the warmth of its menu but also its value, with the steak tartar and the fish trilogy as the star dishes.

The revolution starts in the bathrooms

The bathrooms in the Le Grand Café break with the previous tradition through the K-life 1100 KrionTM solid surface. The pure white which makes up this mineral compact can also be found in the tables, many of which stand out because of their orangish tones (Fruit 6301 from the Colors+ series). The zero porosity, the innovative KEAST photocatalytic technology, along with the superb hygienic composition, make this material the perfect solution for gastronomic spaces.

Noken has also revolutionised the bathroom concept with the wall-hung sanitaryware from the Arquitect series, the Rondo flush button in a chrome finish and the IRTA electronic taps. The specialised company in bathrooms from the PORCELANOSA Grupo banks on energy savings and water optimisation through environmentally-friendly sustainable products.
