PORCELANOSA supports Earth Day and turns off its flagship showroom lights

The multinational ceramic tile company is joining in with the WWF initiative to tackle climate change and protect biodiversity, by turning off its lights in its main showrooms in Spain, the USA, Germany, France, Italy, Russia and Mexico.

PORCELANOSA continues its bid to tackle climate change, joining Earth Hour on Saturday 27 March.

The multinational ceramic tile company will turn off its showroom lights in Spain (Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Seville and Valencia), the USA (New York, Toronto, West Hollywood, Miami and Chicago), France (Quimper, Brittany), Italy (Milan, Rome, Treviso and Bergamo), Mexico (Mexico City), Germany (Cologne), Russia and Latin America (Cancun, Santiago de Chile and Guadalajara) from 20:30 to 21:30 to show its whole-hearted support and commitment to the global initiative organised by the NGO World Wildlife Fund (WWF). "Now more than ever, we have to protect, preserve and take care of our environment, based on the equitable distribution of energy resources, collective solidarity and corporate responsibility. Climate change is demanding us to take notice and think up effective solutions to ensure the planet's - and our own - survival" says a representative from the corporation.

'Eco Conscious' and environmental protection

The action backs up PORCELANOSA's Eco Conscious programme, a set of sustainable measures the company has taken to reduce its carbon footprint (certified by the Ministry for Green Transition) and pollution, implementing renewable energies (30% of electrical energy used in PORCELANOSA's central facilities is generated within its own facilities), reusing 99% of its industrial waste (Zero Waste certified by SGS), recycling raw materials and purifying and reusing industrial wastewater.

"For a number of years we've been searching for new production methods to design and distribute more efficient, durable and healthier collections. We need to rethink the way we use consumer goods, putting an end to planned obsolecense and prolonging the lifespan of each product. This is a value intrinsic to ceramic materials, and will be fundamental to how we approach the green transition in architecture and social spheres", stresses the firm.

Launched in Sydney in 2007, the Earth Hour campaign is a symbolic gesture that aims to draw attention to climate change by defending the health and wellbeing of society from a perspective of environmental conservation and living in harmony with nature.

This global movement has managed to unite almost 200 countries, companies, institutions and social agents with sustainable development as their common goal. Over the course of 14 years, the project has seen more than 17,000 iconic monuments such as the Eiffel Tower and the Colosseum switch off their lights, and has set 2021 as a decisive year for nature protection with the upcoming 15th Biodiversity Summit (Kunming, China) on the horizon.
