The first images are often the first impressions. The importance of having an optimal educational and sports facility is crucial for pupils' academic results. This is why for Raúl Flich, lead architect for the Jaume I and Pius XII schools, fitting out these buildings posed a major a challenge.
Two key challenges emerged in the initial concept of working with an existing school. First, the compositional integration with existing buildings and spaces; and second, implementing the works. The building is in a complex setting with constant activity and the works needed to be done as quickly as possible.
The two schools, in the town of Nules (Spain), had the objective of adding an indoor sports hall and some changing rooms. The architect overcame the first challenge by constructing two complementary volumes adapted to pupils' needs. The new building is home to a sports pavilion and changing room area, made with the modular façade system by Butech, clad in large format XLIGHT porcelain tiles by PORCELANOSA. The solution boasts resistant finishes and thermal insulation; a light and translucent structure to house the sports hall.
Installing the Modfaçade - enabling the quick and simple installation of the school façade - was a plus for this project. Because the solution is manufactured in the factory off-site, it meant teaching could continue without interruption.
