KRION® Solid Surface complies with the REACH regulation of chemicals

The acrylic stone from the PORCELANOSA GrupoKRION® Solid Surface, renews once again its commitment to sustainability and respect for the environment.

The three tests carried out on the next-generation compact mineral confirms that it complies with the European REACH Regulation (EC nº 1907/2006), Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of chemical substances and mixtures. A regulation which came into force on June 1, 2007 and which aims to protect humans and the environment against the risk associated with the manufacturing, marketing and use of substances and chemical mixtures.

In order to confirm the commitment of the Solid Surface, tests have been carried out in the development of this compact mineral which confirm the non-presence in the compound of any of the 161 substances listed in the latest update of the SVHC, Substances of Very High Concern, a list issued by the ECHA, The European Chemicals Agency. The commitment confirmed by KRION® Solid Surface, within the REACH Regulation is the Article 7 referred to "Registration and notification of substances contained in articles".

To comply with the provisions of REACH, companies must identify and manage what the risks associated with substances and components manufactured and marketed within the European Union are. They must demonstrate how they use these substances safely, and furthermore, they must issue all relevant information to the management of risks.

The REACH Regulations come in the wake of the SAICM international agreement, Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management. With the growth of harmful chemicals to humans and the environment, this international initiative brought in in 2006 in order to promote the rational management of chemicals. Through this agreement, from 2020 each and every one of the products that is produced and marketed should significantly minimize the harmful impact that they emit, not only to the environment but against people’s health.
