Update your hallway with the latest trends

It's where you make your first impression, and when you decorate it you need to consider functionality, practicality and brightness: think spaciousness, neutral colours and textured ceramic tiles.

Your entrance hall is where you make your first impression, and it's the first thing visitors see when they come inside your home. It might sometimes get overlooked in favour of your home's more prominent rooms like the living room, bedroom or bathroom, but don't ever neglect the interior design of this space, or how you organise it. To an extent - how much is up to you - it gives away the tastes and preferences of the host, and is an introduction to your home's overall aesthetic.

Foster a sense of order and space with paler colours, make the most of natural light with ceramic wall and floor tiles inspired by marble and wood, or hang mirrors and geometric lights - these are just some ideas for making your hallway or porch picture perfect.

1. Seek warm light

To give your home a warm entrance, at PORCELANOSA Group we suggest opening the space up to the interior, using ceramic wood such as Tanzania Natural o Manhattan Colonial (PAR-KER™). Both collections reproduce the textures and grain of natural wood but with all the technical properties of ceramic tiles.

With high resistance to extreme temperatures, continuous wear, blows and chemical agents, your hallway will stay looking impeccable for longer, blending perfectly into your home's aesthetic. You could combine these collections with minimalist elements such as black or white lacquered furniture, geometric standard lamps, or rectangular mirrors to give the space added depth.

2. Neutral colours and matt finishes

If you want to give the sense of an infinity hallway, we recommend going for neutral colours such as white, beige or grey, using the colour palette to connect it with the rest of your home. The Bottega collection by Porcelanosa, in Acero, would be perfect for this overall design. Part of the Premium large format range, the tiles in this series take inspiration from concrete, blending greyish contrasts and a matt finish to unite the various zones of your home and match any wall covering to perfection.

You could even alternate Bottega tiles with a plain or marble look tile such as XTONE by Urbatek and highlight the colours with a strip of LED lights. This minimalist interior design will give a heightened sense of infinity, with white and grey as the connecting themes

Another collection that's ideal for giving you a more spacious, dynamic hallway is Nebraska Noir. This is a standout oak effect ceramic parquet thanks to its soft surface and sombre grain, blending in perfect harmony with the look of your living area, with vintage furniture, ethnic rugs, circular mirrors or delicate paper or aluminium lamps.

3. Mix textures

Another really practical trick for decorating your hall is to combine exposed brick walls or wallpaper inside the home with textured ceramic tiles. This contrast of styles, combining the classic and cutting-edge, can be achieved with collections such as Newport Park in Beige or Capri Lineal

Park Beige 33.3 cm x 100 cm format ceramic tile

The first series dresses the wall with meandering, irregular lines, giving a sense of lightness to the whole space. Capri Lineal is a natural stone effect wall tile with a matt finish, evoking hand-cut stone in both shades (Bone and Stone). You could combine the tiles with black pendant lights, natural wood or wrought iron furnishings, or geometric print armchairs.

4. Artwork, mirrors and rugs

Sensor stacked books, framed photographs, sculptures or paintings will add artistic flair to your hall. One of the best tricks interior designers use to breathe life into hallways is hanging photo collages, a simple and incredibly attractive idea that'll transform your hall into an art gallery. Another option that's becoming increasingly popular is restoring antique furniture and repainting it in the same original colour.

Cotton or wool carpets, minimalist coat racks, and wall mirrors are other must-have decorative elements for your stylish hall.
