Twelfth Porcelanosa Awards Finalists: Disruptive House redefines the retail concept with experiential interior design

David Ríos and Stefano Dettori, students from the CICE centre in Madrid, have designed a multifunctional space centred on fashion, gastronomy, and wellbeing.

The well-balanced use of collections from PORCELANOSA Group and the connection between interior and exterior spaces lend themselves to a circular journey through the store.

It is a lifestyle shopping space with fashion and catering at its core. This is the concept behind Disruptive House, a new retail concept designed by David Ríos and Stefano Dettori, students of the BIM Manager Master’s Degree in Management and Production of Architectural Projects at CICE.

Their fresh architectural approach incorporates some of PORCELANOSA Group’s most natural collections, earning them a place in the final of the 12th Porcelanosa Awards in the Future Professionals Design category.

Sensory design to enrich the shopping experience

Their minimalist style with open structures interconnected by neutral, restrained tones, creates a sensory interior throughout the centre’s spaces that adds to the shopping experience. “Our main objective was to design a space that breaks with the surrounding environment, offering a flexible and integrated display space between the shopping and bar areas. This way, customers can flow freely and enjoy the interior and exterior spaces”, explain the two architects.

This connection has been achieved by using Travertino natural stone flooring from L’Antic Colonial throughout the store. The collection can be used to create expansive, bright spaces thanks to its resistance, strength, and warmth.

These are qualities it shares with the Krion™ mineral compact, which was used in Black to give shape to a large part of the interior furnishings, and also to the panel systems and staircase connecting the ground and upper floors.

This zone blends with the lounge table in Krion® Bianco Opera with nuclear white contrasting harmoniously with the black furnishings and Marmi Blanco ceramic tiling from Porcelanosa, used to cover the centre’s main pillars.

The white purity distinctive of Marmi Blanco merges with Porcelanosa’s Soho Acero flooring, and the soft grey tone reinforces the industrial aesthetic predominating throughout the store.

Architectural bathrooms

In the bathrooms they opted for the soft, versatile lines of Arquitect, Lounge taps from Noken, and the firm’s most cutting-edge furnishings. The composition is linked with the brand’s image and the centre’s corporate values.

The retail sector is reinventing itself.
