China’s financial capital recently hosted the latest edition of Design Shanghai, the sector’s most prominent event on the Asian continent, held from 8 to 11 June. This celebration of design lasted four days, bringing together more than 600 companies from all over the world along with renowned professionals, the media and design lovers. A total of 77,254 visitors flocked from over 40 countries. Around 75% of attendees were professionals working in the field.
Visitors came in droves to the PORCELANOSA Group stand, conceived under the design concept of sustainable, comfortable living. The 68 square metres of flooring for the stand featured Linkfloor Kingdom Rome, the ultra-resistant vinyl floor tiles by L’Antic Colonial. Replicating the detailing of natural wood, the format of the material is ideally suited to designing larger spaces quickly and safely.
The stand also showcased products with relief and matt finishes from collections by PORCELANOSA: Nolite Marquina, Gasa and Newark, inspired by the colour and texture of natural stone and artisan fabrics.
The layout of the various tiles demonstrated the huge potential of large format solutions, with XTONE® Argos Black, XTONE® Steel Deep Blue and XTONE® Ewood White on show. The new Texture finish was a particular highlight, displayed on XTONE® Alpinus White and XTONE® Montreal Ice designs.
The table in KRION® also impressed, a striking, ethereal form characterised by soft lines. The 3D Fitwall ® Willow Velvet Green wall tiles next to it gave the room a sense of calm and lightness, giving the stand an innovative and original look. This set was completed with Fitwall® decorative panels (Doghe Roble Natura and Oz Mediterranean), recreating textures and volumes with striking realism.
The tenth anniversary of Design Shanghai also served as a platform for the confluence of pioneering ideas. More than 200 guests, including Ross Lovegrove, founder and director of FOR LOVE DESIGN.com; Michael Young, from Michael Young Studios; Tony Chi, from Tonychi Studios; Zandra Rhodes, the fashion industry powerhouse; and Satoshi Ohashi, director of Zaha Hadid Architecture in China, presented their design proposals. The fair was held at the Expo 2010 Shanghai Exhibition Hall. This is one of the city’s most dynamic districts, located close to the China Pavilion.
