Its commitment to product diversification, exclusivity and innovation would take it to winning the Gold Medal for Merit in Tourism in 2012. Recognition given by the Spanish Government to those people, institutions, companies or entities whose work has contributed to the development, encouragement and promotion of tourism. That very same year, it was also awarded with the Entrepreneur Prize of the Balearic Islands, which was promoted by Ernst & Young.
Luxury tourism and sustainable architecture
The great change that Ibiza has undergone over these years is a result of luxury tourism which Abel Matutes has banked on with the Ushaia hotel brand. A fact which turned this island into the favourite holiday destination for tycoons, celebrities and aristocrats from around the world. In 2017, the Palladium Group Hotel chain amassed 600 million euros in revenue, as well as investing 125 million in hotels in Europe and America. It also spent 88 million on refurbishment work for some of its establishments.
The expansion of the Palladium Group Hotel all over the Caribbean Islands, the extension of its services and the internationalisation of its ten companies, are just some of the main challenges for 2019. It will also launch its new Bless brand, five-star hotels which will be open for business in Ibiza over the course of this year. One of the other objectives for this year is to allocate 50 million for refurbishment work and 180 million for new buildings in Europe and America.
