There are some interiors that are conceived and based around a material. It is a material which is able to work as the main axis in the whole set. This is what the project by Pedro Enríquez Villarejo and Raúl Salinas Clavero is like, which is one of the work spaces finalists at the 10th PORCELANOSA Grupo Architecture and Interior Design Awards, in the Professional Forward-Looking Projects category. This project completely alters the environment of the vineyards in which it finds itself, by banking on the most futurist aesthetic and making use of the most current cutting-edge materials.
The project
The architects, Pedro Enríquez and Raúl Salinas, have created an industrial-styled project which has resulted in complete innovative, since we are dealing with the first work space with a magnetic modular system. It is a system that is provided with enough flexibility and functionality to suit any space and cover any need in the work environment. Live and changing architecture, aimed at providing the parts involved with a feeling of freedom and comfort.
Thanks to the magnet system, this mechanism allows for a world to be created in its furniture module units, and also for them to be arranged with no effort by their users. We can find essential items such as chairs and work tables in them; as well as the different functions that it has been designed for; such as space partition, storage, floor-standing table, kitchen, bathrooms and a rest area. All of this in a perfect Black&White combination.
The materials
The project’s main role lies in the materials chosen by their creators, since they respond to the needs of the most innovative and revolutionary products from the PORCELANOSA Grupo.
Those in charge of the project have firstly banked on the KRION® Solid Surface mineral compact, a material whose main properties are its malleability, lightness and resistance. The ideal features for the modular handling system to be flexible and versatile.
In order to reach the goal of creating a magnetic modular system, an inner modification of the material was carried out in the manufacturing process. A metallic pigmentation which increases its polarity and achieves a material of higher lightness and an outstanding magnetism that makes the connection possible with the rest of the system components (IÓN).
This new KRION®-based material maintains all the properties which belong to this mineral compact, such as the lack of porosity, anti-bacterial, hardness, resistance, durability, easy-to-repair property, low maintenance and easy cleaning. Also, the malleability, thus, offering the possibility of creating surfaces with opaque, translucent or backlit finishes.
Following on with its creators’ environmental commitment, it is worth mentioning that KRION® is a material which has been manufactured to the requirements of the ecological criteria, with non-volatile compounds emissions, as well as meeting environmental guidelines with regard to durability and recycling criteria, since it can be reused.
