It’s time to discoverer the winners of the 8th Architecture and Interior Decoration Awards, organised by the PORCELANOSA Group, and the winner in relation to the Professionals Forward-looking Projects was Kelpforest, by Nuria Paterna Lluch and David Canós Martí (N + D Architecture).
In this new edition, the candidates in the Forward-looking Projects section had to design the main rooms of a Muse 74 yacht from the Rodman firm, by making use of the materials and building systems from the group’s eight firms. Based on this requirement, the N+D Architecture project finds its inspiration in the ecosystems of the underwater Kelp forest in order to create a shelter of clear open spaces and numerous practical possibilities, dominated by the versatility of the Krion® solid surface. The preference for white with regard the colour, both for furniture and decorative elements, strengthens the spacious effect and brightness in the rooms.
Therefore, in order to make the most of the space on the deck, where we can find the kitchen, the dining room, the sitting room as well as the front slarium, Nuria Paterna and David Canós have designed a continuous bench with a Krion® countertop. This solid surface has also been used when creating the dining room tables as well as the ones in the sitting room, the extractor hood, the stairs, the outdoor tables and the deck chairs. The floor has been finished off by means of the practical Plus Dark Styledeck outdoor laminate flooring by L’Antic Colonial, providing the atmosphere with a welcoming feel.
The ground floor has been functionally arranged, making its way from the stairs, and covered with Krion® 1100 Snow White, to a space that may be used for meetings, reading or simply relaxing. It is at this level where we can find the cabins, some of them with built-in bathrooms, which have been equipped with the sanitarywares and taps from the avant-garde Mood collection by Noken. Furthermore, there are cabins which are more limited, but all the spacious cabins as well as the limited ones are elegantly decorated with wavy lines reminding us of seaweed and underwater vegetation. The big cabins have a work area, a dressing table, sofas and original benches, whereas in the small cabins the top bed can be changed into a work area. This way, it is important to make the most of the limited space available.
