8th PORCELANOSA Awards: Casa Sardinera by Ramón Esteve Estudio

The ingenuity and elegance Ramón Esteve’s projects are characterised by is also evident in one of his latest studio projects, Casa Sardinera, where Porcelanosa Group’s materials have  been used in its construction. This house, laying on the top of a hillside in Jávea, in front of the Mediterranean Costa Blanca, has been awarded the first prize in the 8th Architecture and Interior Design Awards, with regard to the Completed Projects.

The team made up of Ramón Esteve, Anna Boscá, Emilio Pérez, Estefanía Pérez, María Martí, Víctor Ruiz and Tudi Soriano is in charge of this magnificent house located in Jávea (Alicante). A set of concrete off-white polished walls are opened into big large windows and glass corners where one can enjoy the wonderful views of the sea, which remains framed between the architecture of the building and the water from the swimming pool.

In order to overcome the unevenness of the ground, the house is arranged on three floors: the day rooms, such as the living room, are on the ground floor and open towards the horizon through their own veranda; the first floor hosts the bedrooms, protected from sunlight and the summer heat thanks to some cantilevers; finally, on the basement floor there is a gym with a sauna, a changing room and an indoor pool. The indoor and outdoor pools are on different floors (the outdoor pool is on an upper level) but linked by a longitudinal window. Through it, the water from the outdoor pool casts its shadows over the indoor pool.

With regard to the materials used in the construction, white colour tones have been used to unify the aesthetics of the building. When floor tiling the attached areas to the outdoor pools, the L’Antic Colonial natural stone has been used, to be precise, the Paradise Lake Stone Blanco flat cobblestone. The Krion® solid surface (RAL 1013 colour) has been the choice for the kitchen and barbecue benches. As far as bathrooms are concerned, all their benches have been made from blocks of Calgary natural stone, carved in the blocks themselves.
