XTONE, the perfect aseptic material to design healthy spaces

This compact 100% non-porous mineral makes large premises such as restaurants, hospitals, medical centres and shopping spaces safer and more hygienic.

With the health emergency declared as a result of coronavirus, new working methods and aseptic materials are being studied to create safer and healthier spaces. Not only has architectural planning moved to a new scenario, but so too have the demands of professionals, who now seek innovative permanent solutions to comply with Covid-19 healthcare protocols.

What is an aseptic material?

An aseptic material is one that is free of infection and contamination. One of the products developed by the PORCELANOSA Group with this feature is XTONE. This clean, hygienic compact non-porous sintered mineral is highly resistant to impact, scratching, bending and high temperatures and enhances the settings in which it is installed.

In addition to these properties, XTONE is unaffected by UV rays or chemicals and its composition does not release volatile organic compounds (VOC). This prevents the proliferation of fungi and bacteria and is highly recommended in areas where food or sanitary material is handled, such as restaurants, hospitals and medical centres.

Its properties remain intact for much longer, even if it is exposed to tough cleaning products such as concentrated bleach, steam, acid detergents, solvents or automatic cleaners.

How to clean XTONE sintered mineral

Cleaning and maintaining XTONE is very easy if you follow these steps:

    1. When the ceramic material has been installed, it is essential to protect it in order to prevent possible damage.
  • For thorough cleaning, Acid Net type acid products are recommended. The use of these products will allow remains of cement and sealant to be removed, although they should be diluted and must not come into contact with metals.
  • For general cleaning, the surface should be wiped with bio-alcohol or a neutral cleanser, diluted as recommended by the manufacturer. The surface should then be wiped with a dry cloth without any wax additives.
  • In the case of polished finishes, greater attention is required, especially with plain light colours. For daily cleaning, a damp cloth is recommended.
  • For the maintenance of wall tiles, use neutral detergents or special products. Pay special attention to any remains of substances like paint, oil or coffee on the surface.
  • Special procedures must be applied if products cannot be eliminated through the usual cleaning operations. These will depend on the nature of the product.
