Twelfth Porcelanosa Awards Finalists: A showroom by and for design

Students on the BIM Manager Masters’ course at CICE in Madrid, José Antonio Martínez Noarbe and José Luis Noarbe Martín, have designed an open-plan shop using PORCELANOSA Group collections.

The project was shortlisted as a finalist thanks to its original layout and concept for making the most of natural light.

Sustainability and the responsible use of energy and natural resources are the key features of this showroom. Designed by José Antonio Martínez Noarbe and José Luis Noarbe Martín, students on the BIM Manager Master’s degree course, the project is shortlisted under the category Design of the Future: students category in the Twelfth Porcelanosa Awards.

The students’ original design is based on combining the PORCELANOSA Group’s collections with natural daylight coming in from outside. The building is thus eco-efficient and interactive, with all the materials allowing the user to engage directly with the brand.

Design in movement

The layout of the rectangular space can be adapted according to the requirements of the products to be displayed. The design draws attention to the Habana Dark, Habana Brown, Grey Stone, Calgary and Crema Italia marbles by L’Antic Colonial, used to tile the walls. The last of these is also used as flooring throughout the building.

”As the shop is only 30 m by 40 m, it is necessary to include an interior patio that lets in natural light. Indirect light reaches the space through the gaps created by the positioning of the separate pieces in the false ceiling. This system also helps to reduce background noise levels”, explain the designers.

Bathroom fittings by Noken have been installed in the toilets, in keeping with the general aesthetic of the showroom.

Ideas for putting sustainable consumption into practice.
