Another year on and the historic Ritz Hotel in Madrid will get ready to host the awards ceremony of the 9th PORCELANOSA Group Architecture and Interior Design Awards.
The ceremony, which will take place on May 11, will award the best projects received in two categories: Forward-looking Projects, students and professionals; and Completed Projects. It will reward innovation, as well as the elegant and original integration of materials and products from the eight firms that make up PORCELANOSA Group. In fact, as well as the awards, there will be three special mentions for projects carried out between 2015 and 2016.
Special tributes to two brilliant careers
Additionally, during the ceremony, two special tribute awards will be given out. The first one will be for the renowned architect, Zaha Hadid, who sadly died last March 31.
Hadid has collaborated on several occasions with PORCELANOSA Group in the most impressive architectural and interior design projects design. The last one by them, the bathroom equipment collection from which a preview was available in the last edition of the Salone del Mobile in Milan: Vitae for Noken.
The second of the tributes will be for the Colombian architect, Andrés Perea. His career as an architect of some of the most incredible architectural challenges around the world will be acknowledged. He has won a large number of prestigious awards because of them.
The Ritz Hotel, both a real and prestigious setting
The centrally located Ritz Hotel in Madrid is the perfect place for the PORCELANOSA Group annual awards ceremony.
Its location is in an incomparable enclave, at the beginning of the symbolic Paseo de la Castellana, overlooking the Prado Museum and the Thyssen-Bornemisza and a step away from the Madrid Stock Exchange. However, what it really stands out for is its prestige and royal charm since it was a kings’ accommodation and considered the first luxury hotel in Spain.
The Ritz Hotel in Madrid was opened on October 2 1910, in a ceremony that was led by the honoured guests: King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenie. Since that time, the exclusive hotel has been, for more than 100 years, witness to important events and political celebrations. Events that have not only marked its history, but also its essence and identity.
