Porcelanosa gains traction in Shanghai’s residential sector

Designs in two new luxury residential developments in bolster the Spanish multinational’s presence in China’s financial capital.

Verticality and symmetry: two key features of Chinese architecture, which has been continually evolving over recent years. Cities like Chongquing, Chengdu and Shanghai have become spaces of experimentation, places where the traditional urban model can be updated. Some Pritzker prize-winning architects such as Rem Koolhas, Zaha Hadid and Herzog & de Meuron have built impressive creations and public pavilions in this vein, showing us a new way of societal understanding and living.

PORCELANOSA Group has also played a significant role in this transition towards new architecture. The firm’s ceramic collections, featuring natural finishes and innovative, high-tech solutions, have favoured a shift towards a more sustainable, inclusive and efficient construction model. These are precisely the values they wanted to impart in these two luxury homes in Shanghai: Shanghai Sanxiang and Hangzhou Sanxiang.

The importance of light and the urban environment

In the former complex, the concept behind this loft design was to bring the interior and exterior space together with neutral colours and large picture windows, and it features several PORCELANOSA Group collections. Located in the Qiantan district of Pudong and benefiting from the finest views of the city, this 350 m2 apartment is completely open-plan, featuring a standout minimalist colour scheme dominated by white, and opening out to the Huangpu River. The ‘less is more’ maxim runs through the décor as well as the building’s structure, creating a harmonious contrast with the Tortona natural wood by L’Antic Colonial, used for the floors.
They opted for a palette of grey and beige in the bathrooms, with Madagascar Natural floor tiles by Porcelanosa used as the main material. The restrained design scheme is brought to life by the Aichi Browns mosaic tiles by L’Antic Colonial, used to tile the shower area.

The Hangzhou Sanxiang apartments follow the Nordic aesthetic, dominated by blues, crisp lines and light woods, successfully blending lightness and harmony in every room. The home’s interior design features PAR-KER® Ascot Teca ceramic wood (Porcelanosa) floor tiles throughout, along with neoclassical furniture punctuated by velvety textiles and warm lighting.

The main living area, meanwhile, blends blue and white hues with Ascot ceramic parquet, and in the bathrooms, the Belice Acero cement-look ceramic wall tiles with a play of grey and white horizontal lines lend a stunning sense of spaciousness. The design highlights the straight lines of the furnishings and glazed shower area, which in turn uses Ascot ceramic wood tiles to tie in this area with the rest of the room.
