PORCELANOSA Group Projects: Nordstrom, the luxury firm, opts for the through-body porcelain tile by Urbatek

The façade of its new shopping centre in San Diego (California) is coated with the Morse White Nature porcelain tile by Urbatek on a Butech building system

With more than 300 shopping centres spread across the United States, Nordstrom represents one of the most sophisticated luxury stores in North America. For the ambitious project of one of its latest business premises in La Jolla Village, San Diego (California), this firm involved the architectural studio, CallisonRTKL, and the PORCELANOSA Group materials.

This project, a challenge for any professional, meets the characteristics that the shopping centre demanded. CallisonRTKL sorted the work out with great success in a modern cutting-edge elegant and exclusive building. All of them being distinctive values regarding the firm.

High resistance for the outdoors

The ventilated facades systems are one of the most innovative solutions in terms of energy efficiency. Their advantages include energy savings of, up to 30%, as well as improved sound insulation.

For the outdoor wall tile of the complex, with a surface area of 600 square metres, a ventilated facade with pieces from the through-body porcelain tile by Urbatek has been created, and furthermore, the Morse White Nature model of 29.7cmx59.6cm and 19.7cmx59.6cm has been used. A material that presents an absorption degree of less than 0.1%. This is ideal for being installed in humid, wet and outdoor atmospheres.

These pieces have been made with a special production process so that the sheets could be placed horizontally and follow the lines marked by the structure itself.

Regarding its installation, a hidden clamp system has been opted for which, is attached to each of the pieces of this ventilated façade. A system developed by Butech, a specialist in building systems and engineering projects for these types of façades.

Coloured cement finish

The Morse White through-body porcelain tile has a coloured micro-cement finish, and offers a series of spatulate shades that bring dynamism and a very "chic" touch. A trendy finish.

In this work, Butech has opted for a warm colour range in earth tones with different intensities. Colours which are also present in the square in front of the main access, combining perfectly with the gold and grey tone shown by the cantilevers. A sophisticated set that enhances the brand identity.
