Croftwell, a country home in the UK with a coherent visual scheme

The materials and finishes used provide a connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces

Set against an idyllic natural backdrop, this imposing property in the south of Harpenden boasts an elegant structure housing a light and spacious interior. Designed by Jack and Fleur at EFJ UK, the property opens up to the outdoors, immersing you in serene views of the British countryside.

It’s located in the south of Harpenden; a town brimming with green spaces. Opposite the entrance and the glazed entrance hall the spacious games area and driveway are paved in Karachi Grey tiles by Porcelanosa – used for 95% of the project – creating a sense of harmony with the rest of the property’s materials and finishes.

The two floors are connected by a bespoke cantilevered staircase in stained solid ash wood, leading to the private quarters on the first floor. Glazed partitions zone the ground floor areas, lending a sense of light and connection to the overall downstairs living space, featuring an island kitchen and dining area opening on to the terrace outside and living room within.

The five upstairs bedrooms are in keeping with the rest of the home, and three benefit from en-suite bathrooms. There is also an additional family bathroom. The bathrooms feature a neutral colour scheme (Prada Acero and Mombasa Prada Acero, both by Porcelanosa, accented by Pro-part Black profiles by Butech, Attica 1 Black shower screen by KRION®; and the washbasin area, countertop and wall-mounted unit are from the KRION® Nest series). To retain the stunning sense of light these rooms are equipped with Pro-light profiles by Butech, also used throughout the property.

This is a home that goes beyond pure design, boasting state-of-the-art technology including a revolutionary infrared heating system projecting heat downwards from the ceiling, and a hot water system that only heats a pre-programmed amount rather than the whole tank, reducing consumption by 20%.
