On its fifth anniversary, the multinational will be expanding its facilities, filling the 1,900 square metre adjoining property with new display spaces, offices, ceramics labs and an events space and cafe.
On 9 September 2015, over 700 guests from 80 different countries witnessed a historic moment for PORCELANOSA Group. The firm's flagship store was inaugurated following an extensive and sensitive refurbishment of the historic Commodore Criterion building.
Renowned studio Norman Foster, winner of the Pritzker Prize in 1999 and Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts in 2009, was in charge of adapting this Manhattan architectural icon - built at the beginning of the 20th century - to the company's needs. Key to the project was the restoration of the building's exterior and original elements of the façade.
The opening of the iconic showroom took place in a symbolic setting, ushering in a new era for the multinational. A gala dinner with live music was held right in front of the new Porcelanosa building in Madison Square Park, with views of the Flatiron Building and imposing Empire State Building on the skyline. Representatives from a number of the world's most renowned architecture and interior design studios attended the event, along with the firm's closest international collaborators and friends.
There was no shortage of familiar faces at the celebration, including famous actress Sarah Jessica Parker, actor Richard Gere - an ambassador for the company, Isabel Preysler - a face of the company for more than 30 years, designer Carolina Herrera, bullfighter Cayetano Rivera and supermodels Nieves Álvarez and Irina Shayk. Joining them, other Hollywood stars lent their support to Porcelanosa at its grand Big Apple premiere.
PORCELANOSA celebrates the fifth anniversary of the inauguration of its New York building with an expansion of its flagship store. Prestigious studio CetraRuddy will be in charge of remodelling the facilities, connecting the former Commodore Criterion building to the adjoining property.
The project will encompass new display spaces, offices, ceramics labs and an events space and cafe. In total, an extension of 1,900 metres in which visitors will be able to immerse themselves in a unique experience.
With a trajectory spanning three decades of business activity in the United States, PORCELANOSA Group has opened a total of 29 stores throughout the country. It also has more than 500 authorised distributors.
