Linking architecture, art, graphic design and communication in an emphasized creative symbiosis makes the famous Centro Borgo in Bologna look magnificent. The commercial building, a shopping hub in the Italian city, wanted to join the architectural vanguard, undergoing a refurbishment recently that has been carried out by the well-known architect, Paolo Avellini, of the INRES architecture studio, which has undertaken the architectural project in collaboration with AREA 17 Architettura. Articulating the building renovation around the big prospects for change, and bringing in a dynamic and innovative language, Avellini relied on materials and products from the PORCELANOSA Group when he carried out the restyling of the outside, an outstanding ventilated façade in KRION® Solid Surface installed by Butech building systems.
Using the 1100 Snow White colour from the cutting-edge compact mineral, the architect, Paolo Avellini, plays with light by emulating a contemporary reinterpretation of the old walls on the exterior walls of the building, completely covered by vegetation. Its new soft shapes come alive through the pillars, which are turned into imaginative coloured trees that extraordinarily, become joined together with the floor tile.
Through the creative use of different colour tones on the architectural elements, Area-17 Engineering brings such a cosmopolitan and modern structure to life, as well as adapting to the changing times. With elegance and exclusivity, it manages to eliminate the boundary between indoor and outdoor spaces, transforming the shopping centre into a true urban street.
