PORCELANOSA Group Projects: Installation in the Musée des Augustins, Toulouse

In France, we can find a most interesting project, which is an installation for the International Toulouse Arts Festival (FIAT), the Musée des Augustins, designed to expose a collection of Romanesque capitals in this former French convent, which has counted on PORCELANOSA Group materials.

Cuban-born architect Jorge Pardo is responsible for the Musée des Augustins Hall of the Romanesque capitals stage design, dedicated to the fine arts, with a major collection that offers a journey through the history of art, from the Paleochristian age to the early twentieth century.

His multidisciplinary career as an architect, sculptor, painter and stage designer, took Jorge Prado to work in the design room from a global perspective in order to restore its greatness through the lighting of the exhibits, colourful decoration and floors with an industrial look, respecting the architectural uniqueness of the nineteenth century building that houses it. All this, in order to focus visitor’s attention on the Romanesque collection, consisting of a hundred pieces of the eleventh and twelfth centuries from Daurade y Saint-Sernin Basilicas and Saint-Étienne Cathedral.

Thus, to set the scene for this great 600 square metre hall, Jorge Prado wanted some concrete looking industrial floors that were able to resist a high level of pedestrian traffic in the museum, because of this the architect worked with PORCELANOSA Group technicians to get a design that would adhere to the technical and aesthetic requirements of the project.

Porcelanosa was responsible for the production of glazed look on the concrete  porcelain tiles, manufactured specifically for the hall paving, following the design marked by Jorge Prado.
