The 12th PORCELANOSA Awards: “Gom, a window to the sea” by Ángel Fito. Best Design of the Year and the 2019 Special Award

Situated on a cliff in La Gomera, in the Canary Islands, this house is renowned for the execution and the careful material selection from PORCELANOSA Group.

In addition to the Best Project in the Design of the Year category, the Ángel Fito Studio has won the 2019 Special Award: a trip to attend the next edition of Maison & Objet and a visit to one of the PORCELANOSA showrooms in Paris.

San Sebastián de la Gomera is the place where the Ángel Fito Studio has created its very own “window to the sea”. A single-family house on a cliff where the execution and integration of the materials from the eight PORCELANOSA Group companies have enabled it to winning the Best Design of the Year Award and the 2019 Special Award. These awards, given at the 12th PORCELANOSA Awards Ceremony, allow Fito to attend the next edition of the Maison & Objet Design Fair, as well as a visit to one of the Porcelanosa showrooms in Paris.

“Gom, a window to the sea”, is a house with refined lines whose volumes present warm materials. The project, geared towards the sea in order to offer incredible views from the  inside, has an infinity pool which simulates a sculptured reservoir. For the outdoor area, the creator has opted for special ceramic pieces from STON-KER Newport Natural from the Venis ceramic stone. An ideal material for terraces which allows for a sensation of aesthetic homogeneity to be created both inside and outside the Newport Natural pool. As well as that, it can also be seen on the façade where the Butech hidden clamp system has been used.

Regarding the distribution, “Gom” has two floors, differentiating between day and night areas. The upper floor is made up of four twinned volumes, resulting from the simplification of the layout of the ground floor. The interior of the home is joined through a communication core which gives access to all spaces, in which minimalism, light colours and high-quality materials stand out.

In the main bathroom, the Persian White marble from L’Antic Colonial is the main attraction for the wall tile. As well as that, the Newport Natural and Dover Caliza ceramics by Venis and Porcelanosa have also been used in this space. Noken also plays its part by supplying equipment which provides the latest technology applied to taps, showers, toilets and bathroom accessories. Regarding the furniture, the Next series by Gamadecor and the KRIONTM mineral compact in basins and drawers have been banked on due to their versatility and multiple properties.

The kitchen is fitted out with the Emotions 4.70 model by Gamadecor, guaranteeing a large space for storage. The KRIONTM Solid Surface gives shape to the worktop with a built-in sink, fluted edges and LED lighting integrated into machinery made with the same piece.

Regarding the overall flooring in the house, the PAR-KER Britania ceramic parquet by Porcelanosa leads the way, which allows for a continuous floor to be generated, even in kitchens and bathrooms. This homogeneity is transferred to the shower spaces through Butech, whose Linear Texture grids system acts like a drain, allowing them to have the same aesthetic wood effect.
A cutting-edge project in which the professionals from PORCELANOSA have been involved in all the process phases, which have been overseen by the Ángel Fito Studio.
