How to maintain your swimming pool in winter in four steps

Here are some tips from PORCELANOSA Group firm Butech on how to clean your pool effectively and conserve water using the Pool-Deck drainage system.

Swimming pools are one of the most popular spaces over the summer months to cool down, enjoy the holidays and spend time with family and friends. But now that the holidays have come to an end and we’re back to our usual routines, we’re using them less and they’ve been put on the back burner.

To help you conserve and clean your water over winter, PORCELANOSA Group firm Butech has put together a quick maintenance guide, based on the optimisation of resources and environmental sustainability with its Pool-Deck drainage system.

How to keep your swimming pool in good condition

To effectively winterise your pool, Butech recommends conditioning it over the winter months and reducing water wastage, provided the temperature is less than 14-15°C.

Next we’ll explain the steps you need to take:

    • Clean the sides and the floor. First, you need to clean the walls, stairs, electrics and floor of the pool to remove any dirt from the surface and corners.
    • Analyse the water and adjust your pH levels. A pH level of between 7.2 and 7.6 is recommended over winter. Otherwise, you could get a build-up of algae and microorganisms that will erode your pipes and filters.
    • Shock chlorination. To disinfect the water, you can use a shock chlorination treatment and add specialist winterising products at least twice a season.
    • Cover your swimming pool. Protect your pool from rain, dirt, plastics and dry leaves by covering it with a tarpaulin or swimming pool cover. A wide variety of alternatives are available, such as thermal covers, telescopic covers, roller covers, slatted covers and bespoke options that can be adapted to the size of your pool.

Pool-Deck, a practical solution for modern swimming pools

To make swimming pools safer, more sustainable and more resistant, Butech recommends installing Pool-Deck, a drainage system made for swimming pools and terraces that conceals PVC or metal grilles, incorporating them into the exterior flooring.

All Pool-Deck system pieces are available for two widths of ceramic tiles, 193 mm and 250 mm.

The system incorporates a prefabricated channel, compatible with all outdoor waterproofing systems using imperband membranes. Its high performance polyurethane finish and interior V-shaped inclines allow water to drain quickly and easily, protecting swimming pools from UV rays and low temperatures. Butech provides solutions to the needs of the ceramic tile market in line with the demands of the sector, with comprehensive, practical solutions that come with the PORCELANOSA Group guarantee”, states the firm.

The system chosen is POOL-DECK, our grille system for swimming pools and other outdoor terraces.

It incorporates a channel which PORCELANOSA ceramic tiles are installed over, meaning the design and quality of STON-KER, PAR-KER and STARWOOD collections can be combined with the efficiency of a hidden drainage system. Brochure and additional information attached.
