22 April 2021
Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by EARTHDAY.ORG including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries. It is a day when we are all asked to be more conscious about our impact on the planet and how we use materials and resources.
Sustainable development goes beyond a mere priority for the PORCELANOSA Group, leading us to implement eco-sustainable production processes and manufacture cutting-edge products with a clear objective: minimise the environmental impact.
These actions include reducing air emissions, recycling generated waste and promoting the equitable and controlled use of water resources. To meet the sustainable development goals, the PORCELANOSA Group has created PORCELANOSA Eco, a management model that reinforces responsible production and consumption.
This initiative aims to transform basic raw materials into products that are more environmentally friendly.
To achieve this, the brand has pledged to reuse waste generated during other manufacturing processes and to optimise energy resources.
At PORCELANOSA, 33% of all consumed energy is internally generated by its cogeneration plant. What’s more, the hot air generated by the plant is used to dry the slip and to obtain spray-dried powder for use in the tile pressing process. The Spanish National Energy Commission certifies the energy from PORCELANOSA’s high-efficiency cogeneration plant as being green energy.
Many of the products manufactured by PORCELANOSA have distinct ecological features. Par-Ker® flooring using over 95% recycled material, kitchen and bathroom worktops with KRION K.Life which helps to purify the air, taps with aerators, double-flush system toilets, with which you can save up to 89% of water, and ventilated façade systems, which reduce air conditioning costs and allow you to save more than 30% on energy bills.
