Discover the 9th PORCELANOSA Group Architecture and Interior Design Award Winners

This coming Wednesday, on May 11th, the historic Ritz Hotel in Madrid will roll out the red carpet for the 9th PORCELANOSA Group Architecture and Interior Design Awards ceremony. It is the icing on the cake for this renowned competition, which once again this year has recognised the career of both top professionals and students, who strive to achieve world change thanks to their exceptional and avant-garde project designs.

The award winners

This 9th Awards’ edition once again included two categories: Completed Projects and Forward-looking Projects; Professionals and Students. In the latter section, which deals with the design and conception of a ‘concept store’, the student Ángela Acevedo del Álamo, from the Escuela Vinsac was the one who picked up the prestigious award. She proposed “The wave”, a culture-oriented lively space where the KRION® Solid Surface mineral compact  was highlighted. On the other hand, and with regard to the Forward-looking Projects in the professional category, the awarded winner was Héctor Romero García, from the Estudio Volteo, who presented a future-oriented concept store based on the world of robotics.

As far as the Completed Projects section is concerned, Jaime Sanahuja, Juan Trilles; Erik Herrera, Javier Poyatos and Miguel Bartolomé, from the renowned Sanahuja & Partners Architecture studio, were those who won the prestigious award because of their remodelling work of the Paseo Vista Alegre in Alcossebre, Castellón. The project entails both the tourist office remodelling and the pedestrianisation of the promenade, making use of both the quality and high resistance of the through-body porcelain tile  of Urbatek.

With regard to the special mentions, the Miralbo Urbana studio was the award winner for its use of PORCELANOSA Group‘s materials in its project “La Illa”; Teresa Marzo was the one who won the prestigious award as well. An architect from the Via Celere, thanks to the energy efficiency present in the design of the new facilities of the aforementioned estate agency. The other award winner was the Cabinet Jean-Pierre Meignan Architecture studio, for the Best Façade of the Year at the Innovation Centre of Roullier de Saint Malo.

In addition to this, a special tribute to two brilliant architecture careers was given out: The Colombian architect  Andrés Perea Ortega, with the development of the Spanish architecture honorary award; and the Anglo-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, from the  Zaha Hadid Design studio, to whom the prize was awarded posthumously for her contribution to the world of architecture.

The ceremony

The awards ceremony, hosted at the luxurious Ritz Hotel, was attended by approximately 220 attendees, from finalists to award winners, managers of all the firms who make up the Group and clients, and professionals coming from different regions of Spain, as well as those from around the world from countries such as the USA, the UK or France. The one acting as master of ceremonies was María José Soriano.

As well as the dinner and the awards ceremony at the Royal Hall, those attending were able enjoy a cocktail on the hotel terrace.
