Al Qana, the perfect portrait of architectural simplicity in Abu Dhabi

The luxury Arabian port complex was one of the winners of the first edition of the Porcelanosa International Project Award (PIPA).

Resistance, durability and elegance are the pillars on which the architect Tony Abi Gebramel, from MZ Architects, and the designer Jacqueline Saad Abi Gebramel, from TAG Interiors, have worked for the creation of the facilities.

Exclusivity and minimalist design

Al Qana receives thousands of visitors all year round, thanks to the wide range of activities it offers – a national aquarium, sports facilities and restaurants – and the beautiful Abu Dhabi skyline.

As a space with a high influx of people, it is essential that the materials used in the construction are suitable for high foot traffic, while being resistant and durable over time, without renouncing the exclusive image that defines Al Qana.

The Bottega ceramic collections in the Steel shade were used to pave the exterior areas, taking the aesthetic of cement and River in the Silver shade, both by Porcelanosa. Both models have a soft surface texture that reflects a natural appearance on a non-slip finish. The large-format tiles help with optical continuity and create a sense of spaciousness. The project also included a special production of large-format porcelain tiles by Porcelanosa.

The Ceppo series has been installed as interior cladding and flooring in White by Porcelanosa, with the décor being completed with wood and plants. The building has been designed to offer a minimalist and functional style for sports and wellness activities in The Bridge complex.

For areas of transit and the toilets, the walls have been covered with Nox Corten extra-fine porcelain, providing an oxidized steel metallic effect. Whereas, the bathrooms have been covered with the XTONE Bottega Acero collection, which combines the realism of cement with the strength of the compact sintered mineral.

The Porcelanosa collections enable an image for the Al Qana leisure complex, where neutral colours and the durability of comprehensive design demonstrate the elegance and understatedness of the iconic space in Abu Dhabi. Thus, the distribution developed and executed by MZ Architects, TAG Interiors and the developer Al Barakah Investment, merited the award at the Porcelanosa International Project Award (PIPA), in the "Public Spaces" category.
