The 10th PORCELANOSA Group Awards, which will take place on May 3 at the Palacio de la Bolsa in Madrid, will acknowledge the careers of important Architecture and Interior Design professionals by awarding them with an honorary award.
This is the case of the famous architect. Emilio Tuñon, who will receive a tribute award for his entire career from the PORCELANOSA Group.
Emilio Tuñon, an architect who studied at the E.T.S.A.M., the Madrid School of Architecture in 1981, went on to do a PhD in Architecture in 2000, and he was also a Professor of Architectural Projects at the Madrid School of Architecture in 2016. In 2014, he was awarded with the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts by the Spanish Government, as well as receiving the Mies Van der Rohe Award in 2007, the 2007 European Union Award for Contemporary Architecture, the National Award for Spanish Architecture in 2003 and the FAD Awards in 2001, 2007 and 2011.
Tuñon Arquitectos: architecture made with people, by people and for people
Tuñon Arquitectos was created through Mansilla + Tuñon Arquitectos. An office defined as “dedicated to the project and constructive practice with theory and teaching”, “architecture made with people, by people and for people”. It is optimistic and vital architecture, based on having respect for people, society, environments, landscapes and cities. In short, architecture as a service to society and designed specifically to improve people’s living conditions, optimizing resources, tools and work. It also tries to respond to the local and global needs of a society in constant transformation.
Famous project designs
Tuñon Arquitectos has won important awards for its outstanding projects. Amongst them, it should be noted the First Prize in the Masterplan of Kalaja and Turres Port contest, Albania (2014); the First Prize at the Down Town District Residental Tower contest in Dubai (2013); or the First Prize in the Neubau Gastro-pavillon contest at the ETH in Zürich (2013); among many others. Its project designs and articles have been published in numerous national and international magazines, and its work is reflected in numerous case studies.
Teaching section
At present, Emilio Tuñon also plays a major role as a teacher in the field of Architecture. He is a Professor in the Department of Architectural Projects at the Madrid School of Architecture (E.T.S.A.M) and he has been invited, in a teaching capacity, to many prestigious universities around the world.
The Porcelanosa Group will hold, at the tenth edition of its Architecture and Interior Design Awards, a well-deserved tribute to Emilio Tuñon’s entire career, as well as to his commendable contribution to the architecture sector in Spain.
