The 11th PORCELANOSA Grupo Awards Jury: Luis Vidal

Monday February 19th, 2018 · PORCELANOSA Grupo

The registration to take part in the eleventh PORCELANOSA Grupo Architecture and Interior Design Awards is now open. We begin the review of the jury members for this event.

This year, the PORCELANOSA Grupo is pleased to count on the presence of the architect, Luis Vidal, a major figure in architecture who is at the service of both the user and the city. As well as that, he leads the way in the design of airports, hospitals and offices.

In 2004, he opened his first studio in Madrid (luis vidal + arquitectos), and currently he has offices in the United Kingdom, Chile, the Dominican Republic and the United States. A career consisting of more than 200 projects on all scales: urbanism, building and industrial design.

Luis Vidal has been a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) since 1995, and as well as that, he is a member of the Architects Association in Madrid (COAM), the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and he also belongs to the Industry Advisory Board of Cranfield University (London).

Additionally, Luis Vidal was an associate professor of Projects for the Higher Technical School of Architecture (ETSAM) at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, and he is a jury member of several bachelor degree boards, including the Bartlett School of Architecture.

His personal touch

All the work and projects done by Luis Vidal share the same DNA: social, economic and environmental responsibility. A commitment that has become his hallmark and where one of the most cutting-edge bathroom taps by Noken Porcelanosa Bathrooms has played the leading role. The Mood bathroom taps, created together with the Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners studio, materialises Luis Vidal’s tireless search for functional, flexible and sustainable design.

His most outstanding projects

His most award winning international project is the new Terminal 2, “The Queen’s Terminal”, at Heathrow airport in London which, was awarded as being the Best Public Building in the World. At national level, the New Zaragoza Airport – the Mies Van der Rohe 2009 finalist; the New Hospital Álvaro Cunqueiro in Vigo –  the award winning “Hospital of the Future-“; and the interior architecture of the Reina Sofía National Art Centre Museum restaurant – winner of the Madrid Town Hall Architecture Award are all highlighted.
Recently, Vidal has been chosen by the Massachusetts Port Authority as the “vision architect” to oversee, along with AECOM, the expansion and the renovation of Terminal E at the Boston Logan International Airport in the United States. Back in Spain, the building at Castellana 77 has just been opened in Madrid. This has been awarded with the European Property Award for Best Office Architecture in Spain. And the Botin Centre in Santander, designed together with the Renzo Piano Building Workshop.
