Brasserie du Marché Restaurant, a fusion of trends in a unique space

Located in the west of Côte-d’Or, in the heart of Borgoña, one can find Semur in Auxois. A medieval town in the middle of nature which stands out because of its incomparable architectural value, characterised by its charm on the shores of the river Armançon, set in a plateau of pink granite.
The beer market in the town was the venue for the opening of the Brasserie du Marché restaurant on June 6th, 2017, a project whose interior was designed by Hannah Purssell. The interior designer and decorator opted for products from the PORCELANOSA Grupo in order to see her very own personal touch brought to life. Her main objective was to bank on the uniqueness of the project, through assorted textures, geometric shapes and contrasts.
This was the decorative criterion which convinced the owners, Valérie and François Regnault, who wanted to provide the town with a fresh feel without compromising its incomparable medieval heritage. Additionally, they wanted to avoid any formalism and move away from the image of the refectory. The challenge was to make this pub become a functional bar with a modern atmosphere and an intergenerational-styled decoration, while keeping the charm and heritage of the town of Semur.
For this purpose, the designer included wood which reminded us of the landscape in Borgoña. To do this, she opted for the original Ascot Roble ceramic parquet from Porcelanosa, a floor tile which provides the texture and warmth of wood together with the resistance and toughness of ceramic, which is required by a contract project of this nature.
Similarly, the lighting has played a major role in the design, and it has achieved in providing the project with serenity, spaciousness and cosiness. For the pub to have a fresh atmosphere full of harmony, beyond the large windows; the choice was the Prisma White wall tile by Venis. This ceramic material with a geometric aesthetics stands out because of its ability to create a combination of lights and colours which gives the premises a modern and dynamic look. Furthermore, this material conveys avant-garde design and contemporaneity, which emphasises its elegance and visually enlarges the space. One of the elements that plays an important role in the pub is the bar. A structure of soft curved shapes which breaks with classical ‘square’ bar counters, as well as making a contrast with the geometry of the wall tiles. As the designer stated: ‘Wings aimed at providing lightness to a set which could have resulted in being too dominant and aggressive’. In order to get the curvature and fineness of the bar counter, the Krion® Solid Surface mineral compact was used. This material is highly suitable because of its malleability, easy transformation, maintenance, and lack of visible joints, as well as its soft touch and polished matt finish. To provide the bar counter design with flow and extra personality, Hannah Purssell opted for making use of the Glaciar NP ceramic from Venis, whose colour and tone remind us of the one from the floor tiles.
It is worth highlighting that the work has included the Colorstuck Rapid Blanco N material for joints and profiles in an anodized Pro-mate 3 Aluminio ceramic finish from Butech, the firm specialised in building systems.
A fusion of innovative designs of top quality with the hallmark of the PORCELANOSA Grupo.
